KeeperFill for Chrome (beta)

Installation and usage instructions for KeeperFill for Chrome.

Installation & Setup

(1) Chrome now makes you "Pin" an extension in order to see it all the time. To pin the Keeper extension click on the puzzle icon and then Pin:

(2) Make sure Keeper is enabled on all sites by right-clicking the Keeper icon > This Can Read and Change Site Data > On All Sites

(3) Disable your browser's built-in password saving features:

  1. Open chrome://settings

  2. Toggle the "Offer to save passwords" and "Auto Sign-in" features off.

Logging in

Users will be automatically logged into the KeeperFill Browser Extension upon signing into their Keeper Web Vault or they can log in by clicking on the Keeper icon located in their browser toolbar and entering their email address and Master Password.

Searching Your Vault

KeeperFill's easily accessible search bar, allows users to search within their vault to quickly locate and fill the desired login credentials, payment cards and personal info such as addresses.

For the best record match, ensure that the "Website Address" field of the Keeper record matches the domain and path of the target website.

Filter Record Matches

From a site's login field, users can search within the various matching records to locate and fill the desired login credentials. It is important to note the key factors (in order) that determine record matches:

  • A email address match that is present on the login page

  • The website subdomain and domain of the Keeper record URL (e.g. xyz.microsoft.com will first match xyz.microsoft.com and second, microsoft.com)

  • The website path (e.g. /some/path/to/file)

  • When a record was last filled or edited

Autofill Passwords

Upon navigating to a site's login page, click the Keeper lock (that will appear when you hover over a form field) or the Keeper icon in your browser toolbar. If there is a matching record within your vault, click Fill Record to autofill your credentials and log in.

If there is more than one record match, you can use the search bar to search within the various record matches to locate and fill the desired login credentials.

By default, the AutoFill and Auto Submit Settings are enabled, allowing Keeper to automatically fill and submit a website form for a quicker login experience. These settings can be disabled in your KeeperFill Browser Extension Settings menu.

Hotkeys

Hotkeys are alternative keyboard shortcuts that further streamline your experience using KeeperFill, reducing the number of mouse clicks it takes to complete an action. To navigate and login to a site using only your keyboard, follow the steps below:

  1. To open KeeperFill, enter command + shift + k (for Mac OS) or alt + k (for Windows)

  2. In the search field provided, begin typing your search terms.

  3. Use the arrow keys to locate a record in your vault.

  4. Tap the return or Enter key to quickly fill your credentials and log in to the site.

AutoFill Preferences

If there is more than one matching record for a site, users can designate which record Keeper will autofill moving forward or simply choose to opt-out of the autofill feature for that single site entirely. While visiting the site, navigate to Matching Sites > Autofill Preferences then make your selection.

Creating New Records

Users can easily create new records by clicking the Create New button and selecting the record type (Login, Payment Card, or Address). Keeper will also offer to save your credentials as you enter them on a website login screen.

If it is the first time visiting a site while utilizing the KeeperFill Browser Extension, you will be asked if you would like to Keeper to auto-fill your login.

Editing Records

Users can edit their existing records directly from the KeeperFill Browser Extension by clicking on Matching Sites and next to the record match.

Importing Passwords

Users have the option to import passwords directly from web browsers (Chrome, Firefox, etc.) or other password managers. Click here for detailed importing instructions.

Changing Passwords

KeeperFill makes it easy to change your passwords. When a user visits a site's "Change Password" form, you will receive a prompt from Keeper asking if you would like help changing your password. By clicking Yes Keeper will run a wizard that walks you through a few quick steps to change your password and simultaneously update the record in your vault. These steps will include a series of prompts detailing the following actions:

  • Autofill your old/current password

  • Automatically generate and autofill a new secure password

  • Confirm the changes and save them to your vault

Filling Custom Fields

To have Keeper automatically fill custom fields into login forms from your Keeper Web Vault, simply create a custom field in your record the name of the form field (e.g. "Account Number"). If the name matches the field of form field, Keeper will fill it for you.

To make sure KeeperFill is able to locate the record in your vault to fill, be sure to set the Website Address in your record to the same domain as the website (e.g. "amazon.com").

One Record, Multiple Domains

Some sites have more than one domain (website address) that require the same login/password. If this is the case for any of your records, rather than creating an entirely separate record, users can store multiple website domains within one record. So no matter what domain you are logging in from, KeeperFill will recognize that domain as an alias and allow you to log in with the same stored credentials. To create a record containing multiple website domains, follow the steps below:

  1. While editing a record, click + Custom Field

  2. In "Custom Field Name" enter a name (e.g. Website Alias).

  3. In "Custom Field Value" enter the site's alternate domain name.

  4. To finish, click Save. You can continue to repeat this process for additional domain names by repeating the steps above.

Match on Subdomain Setting

The "Match on Subdomain" setting allows KeeperFill to differentiate a record's subdomain (if present) from its domain. In doing so, only records that match the subdomain of the login page will be populated in KeeperFill.

Example: If a user has a record with a website address containing a subdomain and domain such as "subdomain1.company.com" and another record with the website address containing only the domain "company.com" and attempts to log in to "subdomain1.company.com, the only record match that will appear is "subdomain1.company.com".

Users can enable "Match on Subdomain" within the Settings menu of the KeeperFill extension toolbar.

Note, if no records exist in your vault containing the subdomain of the page you are visiting, but they do for the domain, KeeperFill will populate the existing record(s) containing that domain.

Two-Factor Codes for TOTP

Records that contain a Two-Factor Authentication Code (2FA) can be filled with KeeperFill. Click on the KeeperFill extension icon and Matching Sites then click next to the matching record.

Click under Two-Factor Code to copy and paste it into the code field.

Alternatively, you can right-click in the code field of the form to produce a context menu that allows you to access the KeeperFill features and fill the Two-Factor code (as seen in the following section).

If a website form field does not display the Keeper lock icon, users can right-click on a login field to produce a context menu with KeeperFill features. The context menu offers the ability to fill logins, two-factor codes, payment cards, addresses and even create new records.

Note, for security reasons, only records with a matching domain name will display in the list of record matches.

Uninstall

Uninstalling Keeper's Browser Extension from Chrome does not effect the data stored in Keeper's Cloud Security Vault.

  1. Right click on the Keeper icon in the top right corner of your browser.

  2. Click Remove from Chrome...

  3. When the pop-up menu appears, click Remove.
