Installation and usage instructions for Chrome.

Installation & Setup

To make the most of Keeper's Browser Extension, we recommend that you disable your browser's built-in password saving features. Keeper provides a much more secure and seamless solution to save and autofill your passwords across all browsers, devices and computers.

  1. Install KeeperFill from the Chrome Store.

  2. Click on the Chrome menu icon (three dots), found in the upper right corner of your browser.

  3. Click Settings from the dropdown menu.

  4. From the "Autofill" section, click on Passwords.

  5. Toggle the "Offer to save passwords" and "Auto Sign-in" features "OFF" (if they are blue they are "ON").

Extension Update

To make sure you are running the latest version of the Keeper Browser Extension follow the steps below:

  1. In your browser's search bar, go to chrome://extensions.

  2. In the upper right corner, click the toggle button to turn Developer mode "on".

  3. In the list of your current browser extensions, locate the "Keeper Password Manager & Digital Vault" extension.

  4. Click Details.

  5. Click the Update button found in the upper left corner.

  6. You are now running the latest version of the Keeper extension.

Logging in

Consumer customers can log in to the Keeper browser extension with their Keeper email address and Master Password. If you are part of an Enterprise rollout, you may be directed to log in with your Enterprise SSO Login credentials.

On the Chrome browser, the extension will automatically log in when you log in to the Web Vault. Other web browsers may require you to log in separately to the Vault and Browser Extension.

For customers who log in with SSO, you can type in the Enterprise Domain supplied by your Keeper Administrator.

Searching the Vault

You can search for any website login or other information stored in your Keeper vault by clicking on the magnifying glass from the KeeperFill extension. The search feature is case insensitive and will match any record within your vault.

Autofill Passwords

Clicking the Keeper lock allows you to quickly fill and log in to a site. You can fill your login and password by clicking on the fill button or by clicking on Show More to fill individual fields.

Keyboard Shortcuts

If you prefer to use keyboard shortcuts instead of mouse clicks to make the process of auto filling your passwords even more seamless, follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to the site you would like to log in to.

  2. Type command+shift+k (for Mac OS) or alt+k (for Windows).

  3. In the field provided, begin typing your search terms.

  4. Use the up and down arrows on your keyboard to find and highlight the record you are searching for.

  5. Use the enter key to quickly fill and log in to the site.

If you have multiple logins for the same website, click on the dropdown menu to expand the selection and display all of the matching records.

Matching Records

When logging in to a website, the Keeper Browser extension will provide a list of matching records. The matching is performed by looking at the "Website Address" field of the record as well as the custom fields.

The list of matching records is determined by looking at the URLs stored within your Keeper record. Once the list is generated, a series of logical steps determines the sort order of the selection list, and which specific record is selected as the default choice.

1. If the page you're visiting has a subdomain (e.g. xyz.google.com), then Keeper first looks at the subdomain for the closest match in your vault records. The best matches are sorted by the last time they were used.

2. After checking subdomain, Keeper looks at the "path" information (e.g. xzy.googe.com/some/path) and compares it to the path stored within your Keeper record. The best matches are again sorted by the last time they were used.

3. If the page contains an email address on the screen (such as a pre-filled email field) then Keeper will pre-select the record from the subdomain and path criteria which contains the email field.

Tip: For the best record match, make sure that the "Website Address" field in the Keeper record matches the domain and path as close as possible to the target site.

Creating New Records

To create a new login for a website, click on Create New. Keeper will also offer to save passwords as you type them on a website login screen.

Creating Secure Passwords

Click on the Dice to generate a secure password for a website. Customize the strength of the password and click Save.

Changing Passwords

KeeperFill makes it easy to change your login passwords. When visiting a site's "Change Password" form, you will receive a prompt from Keeper asking if you would like help changing your password. By clicking Yes, Keeper will walk you through a few quick steps to change your password and simultaneously update the record in your vault. These steps will include a series of prompts detailing the following actions:

  • Autofill your old/current password

  • Automatically generate and autofill a new secure password

  • Confirm the changes and save them to your vault

How to change passwords with KeeperFill:

  1. Navigate to the site's Change Password form.

  2. When prompted by Keeper to help change your password, click Yes.

  3. Click the lock icon located in the form field for the old/current password (if available), then click Next.

  4. Click the lock icon located in each form field that is requesting your new password, then click Next.

  5. In the KeeperFill popup, click Save.

  6. In the password form, click Save or Submit.

  7. If the change was successful click Yes. (If it was not successful, click No - Revert Change. This will reverse the password update just made to the site's Keeper record and will allow you to attempt the password change again.)

The "Change Password" form is typically located on the site's "Account Settings" page.

Filling Custom Fields

To have Keeper automatically fill custom fields into login forms, simply create a custom field in your record, in the web vault with the name of the form field (e.g. "Account Number"). If the name matches the field on the screen near the form field, Keeper will fill it for you.

To make sure KeeperFill is able to locate the record in your vault to fill, be sure to set the Website Address in your record to the same domain as the website (e.g. "amazon.com").

One Record, Multiple Domains

Some sites have more than one domain (website address) that require the same exact login/password. If this is the case for any of your records, rather than creating an entirely separate record, KeeperFill allows you to store multiple website domains within one record. So no matter what domain you are logging in from, KeeperFill will recognize that domain as an alias and allow you to log in with the same stored credentials.

To store multiple website domains within a single record:

  1. While viewing the record, click Edit.

  2. Click the + Custom Field button.

  3. In Custom Field Name, enter a field name (e.g. Website Alias).

  4. In Custom Field Value, enter the site's alternate domain name.

  5. To finish, click Save.

  6. You can continue to repeat this process for additional domain names by clicking the + Custom Field button again.

Match on Subdomain Setting

The "Match on Subdomain" setting enables the Keeper browser extension to recognize and differentiate a record's subdomain (if present) from its domain. In doing so, only records that match the subdomain of the login page will be populated into the extension window.

Example:

If a user has a record with a website address containing a subdomain and domain such as "subdomain1.company.com" and another record with the website address containing the same domain "company.com" and attempts to log in at "subdomain1.company.com, the only record match that will appear is "subdomain1.company.com".

To enable this setting follow the steps below:

  1. Click on the Keeper Browser Extension icon in the upper right-hand corner of your screen.

  2. Click on Settings.

  3. Click on Match on Subdomain.

  4. Click on the switch button to toggle it "on".

If records with similar subdomains exist in your vault you are able to view those alternative matches by clicking on the dropdown menu.

Alternatively, if no records exist in your Vault for the subdomain of the page you are visiting, but they do for the domain, the Keeper extension will populate all of the existing recordings containing that domain.

Two-Factor Codes (TOTP)

Records that have a stored Two-Factor Authentication Code (TOTP) can be filled with KeeperFill.

Storing Two-Factor codes in the vault has several advantages:

  • Keeper two-factor codes are more secure than using SMS text messages.

  • Two-factor codes stored in Keeper are protected with strong Zero-Knowledge encryption.

  • They can be auto-filled quickly while logging in to a site, saving time and reducing friction.

  • Keeper records are securely backed up so if you lose a device you don’t have to reset all the codes.

  • Keeper records are shareable. If you have multiple people that need to log in with the same credentials, they won’t need to track down the person who has the only device containing the code.

Payment Cards & Identity

KeeperFill can also fill payment cards and identity information that are stored in your Vault. Payment cards are only available to fill at websites in which you currently have a Keeper record for.

If a website form field does not display the Keeper lock icon, users can right-click on the field to produce a context menu with KeeperFill features. The context menu offers the ability to fill logins, payment cards, addresses and create new passwords.

Note: For security reasons, only records with a matching domain name will display in the selection list.

Accessing the Web Vault

To access the full Web Vault in your browser, click on the Vault icon. You can also access your vault from the Keeper Desktop application or any other mobile device.

Context Menu on KeeperFill Extension

Uninstalling Keeper's Browser Extension from Chrome does not effect the data stored in Keeper's Cloud Security Vault.

  1. Right click on the Keeper extension icon in the top right corner of your browser.

  2. Click Remove from Chrome...

  3. When the pop-up menu appears, click the blue Remove button.

FAQs

Why do I get a white screen when accessing my vault in Chrome?

In rare cases, Chrome’s content caching engine can conflict with installed plugins operations. This can easily be corrected with the following procedure:

Windows or Linux, press “CRTL” + “Shift” + “Delete” to bring up the “Clear browsing data” dialog. On Mac press “Command” + “Shift” + “Delete”.

  1. Select the “Advanced” tab in the top right of the window.

  2. Set the “Time range” to “All time”.

  3. Select the “Cached images”, “Cookies”, “Browsing history” and “Autofill” checkboxes.

  4. Press the “Clear Data Button”.

  5. Quit and relaunch chrome.

In extremely rare cases, Chrome will require a full reset. Resetting Google Chrome will clear the browser’s data and turn off all third-party extensions, which can be another factor behind Chrome’s blank screen error. To reset the browser:

  1. Click the “Customize Google Chrome” button and select Settings.

  2. Press the “Advanced” button.

  3. Scroll down to the “Restore settings to their original defaults” option.

  4. Click the “Restore settings to their original defaults” option.

  5. Select the “Reset settings” option.

  6. Quit and relaunch Chrome.

  7. Re-enable the “Keeper” extension.

How can I use Keeper Fill to log in to a website which redirects to another domain or URL such as a captive portal?

  1. Create a vault record with the initial web page in the “Website address” field.

  2. Create a “Custom Field” entry with the URL of the website you get redirected to.

When logging in, Keeper will automatically recognize the relationship of the two URL’s within the record and use the associated username and password for either website listed in the record.
